A Labor of Love
“Knina’s Knitters” Make Gifts for Babies in Need
By Connie Goldin
“Knina’s Knitters,” a group of dedicated volunteers and members of The Thursday Club in San Diego, has given Mom to Madre exquisite pieces of hand-knit and crocheted items for babies in need since November, 2012. It is such a delight to have the wonderful role of delivering the precious gifts for moms and their babies. We know the importance of having such items–moms feel a sense of joy and pride, which enhances the bonding process. We are so thankful to the dedicated women in The Thursday Club, and especially “Knina’s Knitters,” for making these beautiful blankets, hats, booties, and sweaters for moms to have for their babies. We are honored to be able to bring these lovely items to the Salvation Army’s Door of Hope for the TLC program, serving mothers overcoming homelessness. The Knitters have also made layette items for teen mothers and their babies at the now closed, Haven Program of the Door of Hope, and for a SDUSD High School serving pregnant teens.
