Rainbow Art for Kids ~ El arte del arco iris para niños

Two things young children love to paint are rainbows and hearts. Learning the colors of the rainbow is an important part of early literacy. “Roy G. Biv” is a great way to learn the colors for kindergarteners and up. The “Roy G. Biv” colors are: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. We take out “indigo” and “violet” for the youngest artists and simply use “purple.”  Since Valentine’s Day is coming quickly, we have card stock heart templates decorated with the six preschool colors of the rainbow in stickers, felt hearts and pom poms. Invite your children to use crayons and markers in rainbow colors to decorate the card for family members. No matter what their “writing” level is, they can feel proud to make a beautiful card all on their own. Encourage them to explore texture and new materials through touch. Magnetic letters and numbers, felt hearts, stickers, and pompoms are fun tactile experiences. Check the local stores for excellent deals on art supplies. The Playskool art supplies were purchased from Rite Aid.
