Exceptional Books for Kids
A Gift for Families
By Connie Goldin, LMFT
Earlier this year, I got a phone call out of the blue from a neighbor I didn’t know asking me if Mom to Madre would like seven boxes of children’s books in “like new” condition. Of course I said, “yes!” and the books were dropped off at my door. Ever since, I have been finding amazing treasures in these boxes that I am thrilled to be able to share with children and families through Mom to Madre’s work in the community. Thus far, we have given lovely activity books, “Red Riding Hood” tales, and alphabet books to families from this exceptional donation. We are also using some of the books for our preschool literacy presentations as examples of wonderful books for kids.
The books below will be donated in August, as we begin our “Back to School” book donations. Read-Aloud-Rhymes For the Very Young has already been donated to a young mom with toddlers; and I Love To Eat Bugs is now owned by a delighted kindergartner. It is a joy to have the opportunity to “spread the wealth” of this donation with families who wouldn’t be able to buy them. Interestingly, I don’t know the full name of the donor who wanted to be anonymous and who didn’t want a “thank you” receipt. This type of generosity is so special. I just want to let the donor know, how much pleasure I have received from looking at the books and imagining how happy children and parents will be to have them. I am dazzled by these beautiful books and our good fortune to receive them.
Happy Newsflash! All of these books have been donated to families since this was published.
